Mukuru Financial Services has confirmed its exit in offering services in Eswatini in the next 26 days.
This confirmation was made by Mukuru Group Chief Executive Officer Andy Jury, stating that next-generation financial services platform, Mukuru Financial Services (Pty) Limited will cease operations in Eswatini on June 30.

This decision follows a strategic review and has been taken in close coordination with the Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE), which issued a public notice outlining the orderly wind-down under its supervision.
Jury said Mukuru remained committed to conducting an orderly exit that protected its customers.

He said all pending remittances would be honoured, customers with outstanding inward payments should present their claims in person at Mukuru’s Manzini or Mbabane branches before June 30 and no new transactions into or out of Eswatini would be processed.
MTN MoMo customers in the country can receive remittances from Mukuru users in other markets provided they have completed the required KYC steps to receive international transfers.

“We thank CBE for its constructive engagement and oversight throughout our tenure in the kingdom,” he said.
Jury said the statement did not constitute an offer of financial services in the country after June 30.
Mukuru would retain customer data in accordance with applicable data-protection laws and will provide any further regulatory updates as required.

Mukuru is a leading next generation financial services platform in Southern Africa that offers affordable and reliable financial services to a customer base of over 17 million+ across Africa, Asia and Europe.
With over 100 million transactions to date, Mukuru core was built to provide international money transfers and from this base, they have developed a set of services to address the broader financial needs of their customers.

The CEO said they were a business that put the customer at the centre of everything they did and for that reason, they served clients across physical and digital channels, by various payment methods (cash, card, wallet) as well as a range of engagement platforms including WhatsApp, USSD, contact centre, app, website, agents and a branch and booth network.

Mukuru had been listed among the top 100 cross-border payments businesses globally for the fifth consecutive year in the 2024 FXC Intelligence Top 100 Cross-Border Payment Companies, one of only six African companies to achieve this.
In 2023, Mukuru ranked sixth on the LinkedIn top companies list in South Africa.

It received the Fintech Innovation of the year award at the 2023 Africa tech festival awards for its role in driving economic growth and financial inclusion.
