Pigg’s Peak – A woman employed by a Mobile Money agent is on the run after allegedly betting E40 000 belonging to her employer.
The young woman, who was employed by one Thabile Magagula from Madlangempisi, is alleged to have only worked for five days at Magagula’s business based in Pigg’s Peak Bus Rank.

Magagula alleged that the young woman on Friday had earlier asked her for more cash which she had asked to go and get from Buy Cash Hardware. She said she told her to use the available cash and not to get more as it was late.
She alleged that when she knocked off on Friday, the suspect went to her house with the phone she uses to work. “Usually the phone used for Mobile Money is not kept by the employees after work, but that day the suspect took it with her and my son forgot to take it,” she said.
The following day, which was Saturday, Magagula alleged that the suspect arrived late to work. She did not pay much attention to that as she assumed that she had some minor issues to sort.

She went on to allege that while her son was away fetching more stock, the suspect was left alone in the stall. “When my son returned, she was no longer there and had left the phones at the stall unattended,” she said.
She alleged that she then called the rank marshals to look for her and that is when she got information that she was seen boarding a kombi going to Buhleni.
Magagula alleged that she later got information that the suspect was seen around Msumpe. “We then went to look for her at Msumpe but we could not locate her. We then went back to the police in Pigg’s Peak where we reported the matter,” she said.

Magagula alleged that there was E40 000 in the Mobile Money account that was blown away by the employee in betting overnight. She alleged that when she called the service provider, she was informed that the suspect made transactions ranging from E1 000 and the highest being E5 000 to a betting website. It is alleged that the last transaction was made at around 2am.
Deputy Chief Police Information and Communications Officer, Assistant Superintendent Nosipho Mnguni, confirmed the matter. “The case was reported to the police and no arrest has been made yet,” she said.
