In a dramatic turn of events, long-serving Mbabane Swallows defender Sifiso Mabila has been recalled to training, just days after being told his services were no longer needed.

The club’s sudden U-turn follows a wave of outrage from fans, who criticised what they described as disrespectful treatment of one of the team’s most loyal players.

“He was told to report for training yesterday. It was a complete reversal from the initial decision. The fans really made noise about it and it forced management to rethink,”  – Swallows insider

Just last week, the Eswatini Observer reported that Mabila had received a phone call instructing him to stop training with the team—an unceremonious end to his 14-year journey with Swallows.

The call reportedly came shortly after a pre-season friendly against TS Galaxy in Mbombela, South Africa. He was notably absent during Sunday’s friendly against Ubombo Sugar at Mayaluka Stadium.

Fans’ Fury Forces Management U-Turn

Supporters, many of whom have followed Mabila since his early days, took to social media in an outpouring of support, calling the decision “shameful” and “disrespectful.” The backlash left the Swallows management with no choice but to recall the player.

This isn’t the first time supporters have stepped in to defend veteran players. Striker Sandile Hlatshwayo was once on the chopping block but was saved by similar fan intervention.

Fans also drew comparisons to the abrupt exits of club legends Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze and Wonder ‘Samba Jive’ Nhleko, both of whom were shown the door without a proper farewell.

“This club is starting to forget the people who gave their lives for it. You cannot just discard legends like trash.” – Concerned Swallows Supporter

Mabila Speaks Out

Now back in the fold, Mabila confirmed he had returned to training. He expressed gratitude for the support and vowed to make his final season count.

“Swallows are a big club in Africa and the badge feels like home to me. This will be my last season, but I want to continue helping Swallows even after I retire. I would love to hang up my boots with at least two more major trophies,” – Sifiso Mabila

He called on supporters to rally behind the team.

“I can promise them that the glory days are coming back this season. This team will compete. Let them come back and support the boys. Bazojabula.

Club Reacts

Mbabane Swallows PRO Knowledge Ngwenya said Mabila remains an important player at the club and that they are happy to have him continue playing a leadership role.
