SOCCER – Former Mbabane Swallows and Sihlangu icon Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze has embarked on a major new chapter in his football career after being appointed to the technical bench of the newly launched Real Betis Eswatini Academy.
Tsabedze, widely regarded as one of the finest talents to emerge from the country, joins a coaching structure spearheaded by former Sidvwashini mentor Andile Vilakati. The left-footed maestro will serve as a senior coach, a role confirmed during the academy’s colourful launch held at Usutu Forest School (UFS) International on Friday evening.
The high-profile event attracted a significant gathering of local football stakeholders, including Premier League of Eswatini Chairman Polycarp “Phoseka” Dlamini and Eswatini Football Association (EFA) CEO Frederick Mngomezulu, alongside parents and invited guests.
Unveiling the six-member coaching team, UFS International Head of Sports Tinavo Mushavi said the project aimed to provide a global platform for youth development. He explained that, with the support of both local and international coaches, the academy was committed to applying the Real Betis methodology consistently across all levels.
Mushavi described the initiative as a groundbreaking partnership that would fundamentally transform the landscape of youth football development in Eswatini. He added that the project would create clear development pathways and introduce world-class expertise, ensuring the local game “will never be the same,” while thanking the UFS International governing council for its support.
Tsabedze is part of a strong technical team that includes Royal Leopard Ladies head coach Simphiwe Simelane, elite women’s footballer Siphesihle Dlamini, and former players Sipho Tsabedze and Celumusa Msibi.
Speaking after his unveiling, Tony admitted to feeling a deep sense of responsibility regarding the academy’s role in strengthening the national team. He said the project was designed to benefit the entire country, not only the host institution.
“We are nurturing youngsters who are the future of the national team, and being entrusted with such responsibility is no joke. We are ready to handle it with care,” he said.
