ATHLETICS – THE 2025 Imbube Marathon has reached a major milestone after the sponsorship package for this year’s race surpassed the E1 million mark.
This follows the unveiling of three additional partners: Ubombo Sugar, Spar and IDCE who pledged a combined E180 000 yesterday.
Heading into the unveiling, the seventh edition of the marathon, set for next month, already stood at E820 000 in sponsorship.

Ubombo Sugar contributed E80 000, an increase of E20 000 from last year’s support while Spar and IDCE each committed E50 000. Of Spar’s total sponsorship package, E30 000 will go directly into cash prizes with E20 000 allocated to food vouchers for winners.
Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF), which organises the event, welcomed the new sponsors.
ENPF Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Futhi Tembe said their involvement reflected the continued growth and popularity of the national race.

“Most individuals and corporates have joined us on this path driven by belief in a healthier and inclusive community.
“ Today we are honoured to be joined by Ubombo Sugar, Spar and IDCE. On behalf of the Imbube Marathon team and ENPF, we thank all our partners for their continued support,” she said.
Tembe added that registration for this year’s edition had exceeded expectations, with entry tickets selling out ahead of the late registration window being clear evidence of both local and international interest.
She also encouraged other sponsors to come on board as they were still accepting sponsors and further encouraged all those that would be participating on the day to continue preparing for the race.
The 2025 Imbube Marathon will take place on October 18 at Somhlolo National Stadium, featuring the 3.3km, 10km, 21km and 42km races.
