In a landmark initiative aimed at transforming the sporting landscape of the Kingdom of Eswatini, the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) has announced plans to enrol 200 young athletes into its High-Performance programme this year.
The bold vision was unveiled during the launch of the Eswatini High-Performance Sports Strategy at The George Hotel in Manzini. Addressing stakeholders at the event, EOCGA Chief Executive Officer Maxwell Jele underscored the urgent need to streamline and unify talent identification and athlete development frameworks across the country. Jele lamented the fragmented nature of current programmes, highlighting that Eswatini lacks comprehensive pathways to guide young talent from grassroots involvement to elite international competition.
Speaking at the launch, Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima hailed the occasion as a turning point for Eswatini sport. He described the strategy as a “significant milestone” and called upon all stakeholders, particularly national federations and the private sector, to take ownership of the initiative.

The minister issued a rallying cry to all involved in the sporting fraternity to join hands in the pursuit of a historic goal – securing Eswatini’s first Olympic medal.
“This is more than a dream. It is a national mission that demands our collective discipline, effort and sustained support,” he added.

• Sports Science and Technology – Plans to establish at least one High-Performance Centre that will offer athletes world-class facilities and support systems.
• International Exposure – Programmes designed to prepare athletes for global competition by providing platforms for international engagement and experience.
• Partnerships and Funding – Mobilising support from the private sector and international partners to sustain and expand the impact of the strategy.
