E58 000 Stokvel Savings Stolen from Woman’s Trunk in Ezulwini

A 58-year-old woman from Nyonyane, Ezulwini, has been left devastated after losing her savings of E58 000, which were stolen from a trunk at her home.


According to a source close to the matter, the woman had been saving the money as part of a stokvel. The money had been stored safely in a locked trunk in her bedroom.
“The woman suspects that the money was stolen by someone who knew about her savings. She has since reported the matter to the Lobamba Police Station. She discovered the theft in the early hours of that day,” the source revealed.

Deputy Chief Police Information and Communications Officer (PICO), Assistant Superintendent Nosipho Mnguni confirmed the incident. She stated that Lobamba police have since launched an investigation into the theft, which occurred on October 12. “Lobamba police are investigating a case in which a 58-year-old woman of Nyonyane discovered that her savings amounting to E58 000, which was stored in a trunk, had been stolen. We are appealing to anyone who may have information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect or suspects to contact Assistant Inspector Mndlovu at 7605 0352 or the Lobamba Police Station at 2416 1130, or dial 999/9999 or 112 for emergencies,” Mnguni said.

She reminded the public, especially members of savings groups and stokvels, about the importance of safeguarding their money through safer financial options.
“This unfortunate incident highlights the urgent need for individuals and community savings groups to secure their funds in safer ways.

“Police strongly encourage citizens to make use of secured digital channels such as banking apps and mobile money platforms to protect their savings from theft, scams, or mishandling,” she said.
She added that embracing digital banking not only enhances security but also gives savers peace of mind, knowing their hard-earned money is protected.
