The long-awaited opening of the Boxer Store in Mbabane finally takes place today, bringing relief and excitement to shoppers who were left disappointed last week.

The launch comes just in time for one of the biggest retail events of the year, Black Friday, offering customers a second chance to enjoy new shopping opportunities at the fresh outlet.

The store was initially scheduled to open last Thursday, but the event was halted after the Mbabane Municipal Council withheld the occupation certificate.

The developer, New Mall Properties, reportedly failed to meet several municipal requirements tied to the building’s readiness. These included upgraded parking facilities, an improved loading and delivery system for suppliers, and the addition of an outdoor seating area intended for both shoppers and food outlets.

These elements form part of the conditions set by the municipality before full operations could begin.

Mbabane Municipal Council Information and Public Relations Officer Lucky Tsabedze confirmed that the developer has now been granted a provisional occupancy license, allowing the store to operate while outstanding issues are being resolved.

“We have given them a timeline to address their issues. We have had discussions and managed to reach a position that allowed us to issue the provisional occupancy license so they can continue working while they attend to some of the requirements,” he said.

Despite efforts to get further clarity from Boxer’s side, Regional Manager Jeremiah Mkhonta could not be reached for comment as his phone rang unanswered.
