SOCCER – Police side Royal Leopards have all but completed the signing of free-scoring Rangers forward Hleliso ‘Madlenya’ Gamedze, winning the race for one of the most sought-after players in the current transfer window.

Sources close to the negotiations confirmed that the deal was wrapped up late last night after Leopards met all the conditions set by Rangers within the agreed timeframe.

Only minor administrative details remain, with the striker already expected to report to the police side’s camp. The deal is reportedly above E100 000.

“Rangers outlined their terms and Leopards met them before the deadline,” said a source familiar with the talks.

“The finer details remain confidential between the two clubs, but the move is effectively done. The player is on his way and could even feature in the opening round of the Ingwenyama Cup.”

Royal Leopards General Manager Frank Hurube adopted a measured tone when contacted, but did little to dispel suggestions that the deal is concluded.

“We have great respect for Rangers and therefore prefer not to speak openly about their player,” Hurube said.
“What I can say is that any team would be pleased to have a player of his quality. When there is something official to communicate, we will do so.”

Rangers Chief Executive Officer Thembinkosi Hlanze also declined to comment, indicating that the matter was no longer at his level.

“I am not part of the negotiations,” Hlanze said.
“The appropriate person would be the club president, who is currently out of the country on other business.”

Gamedze, popularly known as ‘Madlenya’, has been in scintillating form since joining Rangers, topping the league’s goal-scoring charts with 11 goals from 16 matches. His imminent arrival is expected to significantly boost Royal Leopards’ attacking options as they prepare for the new campaign.
