A resident of Mafutseni is turning a childhood dream into reality after securing a full-time role on the South African soapie Isitha: The Enemy.
Maggie Ginindza (38) is among five locals who were selected during auditions conducted in the country last year by Black Brain Pictures, the production company behind the e.tv drama.
What began as a background role soon developed into a fully-fledged character, marking a major milestone in her acting career.
“Walking onto that set for the first time was overwhelming. I came in as an extra, but I worked hard and the production team trusted me with more responsibility. That vote of confidence meant everything,” Ginindza said.
She described her experience on Isitha: The Enemy as both exciting and validating, particularly after seeing herself on television this past weekend.
“Watching myself on screen was fulfilling. I have had this dream since I was six years old. To finally see it happening, especially on this big scale, is very emotional,” she said.
Ginindza’s acting journey began at a young age, with early performances in school and community productions.
Her passion later translated into professional work in the country, most notably on the popular local television series Ekhaya, where she gained valuable on-set experience.
“Ekhaya shaped me as an actress. It taught me professionalism, patience and how to work as part of a production team. Without that foundation, this opportunity would have been much harder,” she said.
She said her role on Isitha: The Enemy represents her first major breakthrough in the South African television industry, known for its high standards and competitive environment.
Ginindza said working alongside experienced actors has pushed her to elevate her performance.
“This industry demands discipline. Being on Isitha has stretched me creatively and shown me what is possible,” she said.
Ginindza believes her journey reflects the depth of local talent and hopes her success will encourage young actors from rural areas such as Mafutseni to pursue their ambitions.
“Talent does not have a postcode. If you are committed and prepared, opportunities will come,” she said.
She now joins a growing list of local actors who have made their mark in South Africa, including actress, model and television personality Amanda du Pont, who secured a permanent acting role on Skeem Saam.
