Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo is facing a wave of criticism online after admitting he was aware of leaked audio recordings in which he made unpalatable remarks about Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini.

The audio has sparked heated reactions, with many questioning his professionalism and suitability for the role.
Social media users have offered various reasons and speculations about what might have prompted Nxumalo to make such unpleasant remarks, particularly noting his decision to engage in an interview with a publication he had previously labelled as a prescribed entity.

Addressing the issue during a press briefing this morning, Nxumalo apologised to Their Majesties and the Prime Minister for the outburst, which he said was caused by stress and ill-health.

However, not everyone was convinced by the apology. Others expressed shock that a high-ranking spokesperson would speak ill of a high ranking official as the PM, calling for firm action to protect the dignity of the offices he represents.

The users said the comments by Nxumalo were a cause for concern and that the country’s authorities needed to thoroughly look into his conduct as it was uncalled for.
Some users brought up the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence (SODV) charges preferred against Nxumalo, following his alleged rape of two minors, arguing that the latest scandal only deepened concerns about his conduct and the reputation of government communication.
