In a significant move to fuse local creativity with South African television, Icon PB Music, a leading South African music production house, is extending an open call to talented music producers from Eswatini.
The company, helmed by Phila Koshin, who’s also the Chairperson of the Eswatini Theatre Club, is seeking collaborators for upcoming soundtracks on two of South Africa’s most-watched drama series: Uzalo and Ithonga.
The initiative marks an important step in strengthening cross-border artistic collaboration and nurturing homegrown talent for regional and continental platforms.
Koshin believes Eswatini’s music scene is bubbling with untapped potential and is ready for a bigger stage.
“We are thrilled to explore the rich musical talent in Eswatini and collaborate with producers on these exciting projects.
“This partnership will not only showcase the beauty of Swati culture but also provide opportunities for local artists to grow and develop their skills,” said Koshin.
He said the initiative was not just about finding background music, but it was about storytelling through sound.
Icon PB Music has carved out a formidable reputation as a leader in sound design and score production, having worked on blockbuster South African series such as The Wife, Isibaya, Shaka iLembe and Amalanga Awafani.
Their sonic contributions have helped shape emotional narratives and deepen viewer experiences on some of Mzansi’s most iconic TV dramas.
He also shared that the company frequently collaborates with prominent production companies such as Stein Glass and Tshedza Productions and has now set its sights on nurturing the next wave of local composers and beatmakers.
Already, Icon PB has given opportunities to local artists such as Mabandla Gama, Subjamz and Tanele Mnisi names that are steadily making waves through TV placements and streaming platforms.
Koshisi also shared that these collaborations were not a once -off gesture but part of a larger strategy to integrate local sound into regional media and entertainment industries.
“Our vision goes beyond creating great music,” Koshin explained.
“We want to develop collaborative soundscapes that elevate visual storytelling while empowering home-grown producers and artists with the platform, tools and networks they need to compete on a continental scale.”
He said the opportunity was particularly timely.
As the global entertainment industry shifted towards embracing diversity and authentic, culturally-rich content, African sounds especially those grounded in traditional and indigenous roots, were in high demand.
“Eswatini’s sound is unique. It is soulful, it is rooted and it’s time the world heard it,” Koshin added.
He also emphasised that interested producers and artists should not hesitate to reach out through the company’s social media platforms for more details.
“Whether it’s traditional instrumentation, modern Afrobeat fusions, or experimental scoring, the team at Icon PB Music is open to diverse sonic ideas.
“Interested producers and musicians can reach out via Icon PB Music’s social media pages and be part of the sound revolution taking over African television,”
he added.
