In a significant move meant to ensure easy access to Luhlanyeni Primary School, Eswatini MTN in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport improved a 6.3 kilometres (km) road leading to the school which was in a dilapidated state.
This was through MTN 21 Days of Yello Care Initiative which took place yesterday under the Lubombo region.
Eswatini MTN Chief Executive Officer Wandile Mtshali, also joined the team which brought smiles to the faces of Luhlanyeni Primary School leaners and teachers.
According to Eswatini MTN Corporate Affairs Manager Thandwayinkhosi Dlamini, yesterday the Eswatini MTN’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO’s) office headed to Luhlanyeni Primary School to enable road access to the school, with an enrolment of 123 learners, teachers and staff.
She pointed out that this initiative was a collaborative effort with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
She said during the initiative, the teams from MTN Eswatini and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport rolled up their sleeves and re-gravelled the road, a 6.3 km stretch road from the Siphofaneni road or main road to the aforementioned school.
She pointed out that the road was inaccessible as some sections of the terrain had a slippery surface.
“The plasticity index was also too high and as such, the ministry representatives brought the material to make it accessible even when it was raining,” she said.
She mentioned that they also did crossings in some parts of the road and some rock fillings in some parts of the road. Dlamini highlighted that MTN Eswatini also worked with the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) personnel in making sure that the school community was enabled through sporting activities, leaving five soccer balls for the school.
She said all the water tanks in the school were also filled with water. “The school also benefited from the science kits that 20 schools got in the 2024, 21 Days of Yello Care.,” she said.
Eswatini MTN Chief Executive Officer Wandile Mtshali stated that before the improvement of the road, the terrain in question created hurdles for teachers, leaners and community members to have accesses to the school, since the learning institution is situated far away from the main road.
He mentioned that it was for that reason that they collaborated with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, which provided graders that were used to re-gravel the road with the assistance of Eswatini MTN team members.
He mentioned that the teachers of the school expressed their outmost appreciation to Eswatini MTN for their effort in fixing the once rugged road.
“We strongly believe that the road will be kept in a good condition. The ministry representative wills from time to time make some random visit to check if whether or not it is well maintained,” he said.
Mtshali thanked Eswatini MTN staff members and the representatives from the ministry for dedicating their time and effort in ensuring that the initiative becomes a success.
