The MTN Eswatini and Premier League of Eswatini sponsorship deal has come to an end, and no agreement on renewal has been reached just yet.
This was revealed by MTN Chief Executive Officer Wandile Mtshali after witnessing Nsingizini Hotspurs hammer Sidvwashini United 5-0 at the Somhlolo National Stadium. MTN has been the sponsor of both the Premier League and National First Division for 20 years now.
“We are still in talks with the PLE and nothing has been finalised just yet,” Mtshali said. He congratulated Nsingizini on winning their debut league championship, noting that the first half was closely contested in what was a good game overall.
In a previous interview, PLE Chairman Polycarp Dlamini revealed that the elite league feeder, the NFD, will have a new sponsor for the 2025/2026 season. Dlamini was asked about the NFD prize money, which did not reflect the competitiveness of the league, and he said that was a challenge across the board in all PLE competitions.
“For example, a team will spend E5 million a season and only get prize money of E1 million. It shows gaps in that regard, and for the NFD specifically, we are working on getting a lucrative sponsor for them in the new season. I can put my head on the block and confirm that the NFD will have a new sponsor,” Dlamini said.
